Abstract
1,171,890. Blow-moulding. SOLVAY & CIE. 29 Oct., 1968 [22 Nov., 1967]. No. 51180/68. Heading B5A. A rotary blow-moulding apparatus, Fig. 2, comprises a continuously operable extruder 80, a structure 1 having a rotary shaft (4, Fig. 3, not shown) in shaft 9, 10, Fig. 1, on which are secured a series of mould halves 12 which, together with movable mould halves 17 pivoted thereto, each define a cavity to produce two articles joined at the neck, the movable mould halves 17 being operated by a fixed cam-track (29, Fig. 3) and roller 21, Fig. 4, mould locking means 32-35, means to supply blowing fluid 44-45, trimming means 59-64 and an ejector 56-57. As shown in Fig. 2, the open mould 11, 12 receives parison P at position B and rotates in the direction G, the mould being closed by means of roller 21 moving in cam (29, Fig. 3) and locked by rotation of arm 35, Fig. 4, by means of abutment 42, Fig. 1, on arm 38 and lever 33. Blowing needle 44 is advanced by cylinder 45 activated by cam 54 and gate 48 and blowing fluid is fed through it by means of cam 55 and gate 49, the parison being expanded to the shape of the cavity and into a recess (at 84, Fig. 5, not shown) at the ejector 56. Blowing is discontinued and the needle withdrawn by position D. Blades 59, 60 are advanced and retracted at D by means of cam 69, gate 68, cylinder 65 and pushrod 66 which strikes abutment 63 on blade holder 62, flash at the base of the article having been cooled by means of cooling fluid supplied through pipes 70. The mould is unlocked on leaving D by abutment 43 on arm 39 causing rotation of lever 33, 34 and arm 35 and opened by cam (29) and roller 21. Ejector 56 is advanced at F by means of cam 58 to eject the article 81 into shoot 82. The double article 81 formed may be separated and trimmed subsequently. The shaft may be rotated at or above the speed of extrusion so that the parison received by the moulds may or may not be longitudinally oriented.
