Abstract

1,169,935. Making disc armatures. CIRCUIT RESEARCH CO. 6 Dec., 1966 [6 Dec., 1965], No. 54538/66. Heading B3A. [Also in Division H2] The planar armature of a D.C. motor (see Division H2) is made by winding insulated wire on to a planar surface and connecting the winding to a commutator by means of a circular jig 149 having four circular arrays of pins 150 around which the wire is wound. A disc blank 156 includes a central commutator 157 and is provided with holes through which the pins project. The turns are secured to the segment risers 158. The windings may be secured to the disc by making this of thermoplastic material and pressing them into the disc, by pressing between two discs, by spraying or dipping to produce a disc enveloping a winding formed without a disc, by gluing the turns together at suitable points, or by simply using wire which is rigid enough to be self-supporting.
