Abstract

1,168,956. Flat laying stockings. H. C. ANDERSEN. 17 Jan., 1968 [17 Jan., 1967], No. 2612/68. Heading A3V. An apparatus for the flat laying of stockings comprises a holding member 2 which receives and holds the leading end of a stocking conveyed thereto by a pneumatic stocking supply system 1 and a means 16 for producing a flow of air along a flat laying path 17 away from the holding member. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 1 the holding member on receiving the stocking is moved to position 2<SP>1</SP> and after release of the stocking the surface 17 tilts to drop it into a tray. The holding is preferably done by a needle 10 operated by a pneumatic cylinder 4 but may also be by tongs, a claw, or by suction. In an alternative embodiment the holding means is placed at the extreme end of the pneumatic supply tube 1 and the flow of air runs counter to that of the supply system, the tube being operable at its base to release the flat laid stocking into a tray. The conveying air tube is shut off during flat laying.
