Abstract

1,168,003. Coin-packageing apparatus. TENSHIN KAHEI KEISANI K.K. 26 Oct. 1967., [27 Oct., 1966], No. 48821/67. Heading B8C. Coin-handling apparatus comprises means for selecting, counting, stacking and wrapping coins, at least two of these means being simultaneously and co-operatively adjustable to handle a chosen size of coin. Selecting coins.-Coins are placed on a rotating disc 1 and pass successively through a gate 4 formed by a rim 3 on to a fixed plate 2 having an edge 2a. Beyond this point, there is a selecting slot 6 defined by the edges 1a and 7a of the disc 1 and of a sliding plate 7 respectively. Coins of diameter smaller than the shot width W 1 fall through the slot 6 and are rejected. The maximum diameter of coin allowed to enter the selecting passage between the gate 4 and discharge portion 5 is defined by the distance W 2 between the edge 3a of the rim 3 and the edge 12a of a plate 12 mounted on sliding plate 7. In one embodiment, in order to adjust the position of plate 7, and thereby alter the distances W 1 and W 2 , a cam 10 engages one side 9a of a hole 9 in the plate 7. A spring 11 urges the plate 7 against the cam 10, so that the orientation of the cam determines the size of coin accepted. As coins pass through the discharge portion 5, they fit into notches in a star wheel 14, causing the latter to rotate and operate a counting device. In order to ensure that each coin turns the wheel 14 correctly, the width of the discharge portion 5 is adjustable to the size of coin, in that a plate 19, forming one side of the portion 5, moves to the left or right when the cam 10 is rotated and the plate 7 moved, since a lobe 19b is held in contact with an edge 7b of plate 7 by a spring 20. Feeding and stacking coins.-The coin feed mechanism, Fig. 2 (not shown), comprises a drive wheel (21) arranged at the discharge portion 5. The wheel (21) is driven through a pulley (29) and shaft (25), and a cam (42) may be rotated to move a clutch (39) and differential gear device in order to choose one of two rates of rotation for the wheel (21). The cam (42) and the cam 10 controlling the selection means are mounted on a single shaft (41) so that by turning a knob (90) the size of coin selected and the feeding rate may be simultaneously adjusted. Coins are stacked in a vertical cavity, and the cam (68), Figs. 6, 7 (not shown), controlling the diameter of the stacking cavity, and the switch (75) determining the height of the stack formed, are both connected by gearing to the shaft (41) so that they may also be adjusted simultaneously with the selection and feeding means. In a modification, Fig. 9 (not shown), the width of the coin selection path is adjusted directly by a knob (108) and a screw (109) moving a sliding plate (100), and the rotation of the screw is transmitted through gearing (not detailed) to rotate a shaft and thus effect the other adjustments as described above. A movable plate equivalent to 19, Fig. 3, is not used, the side of the plate 100 serving to define one wall of the coin passage and moving towards or away from the star wheel as the coin selection path width is adjusted.
