Abstract
1,167,692. Lubricating. LINDE A.G. 31 Jan., 1968 [3 Feb., 1967], No. 4865/68. Heading F2A. A stand-by lubrication system for a pressure-lubricated machine has a lubricant-containing reservoir 18 having an outlet connected through a level-responsive cut-off valve 23 to a main feed-line 3, via an oil-feed line 22; and has control means 8 responsive to a fall in pressure in the main feed-line 3 to connect the upper part of the reservoir 18 to a pressurized-air supply. In use lubricant is pumped by a pump 2 to a main feed-line 3, via a check-valve 3a, is fed to lubrication points 4, and is returned through a back-pressure valve 5 and a line 6 to a main reservoir 1. Pressurized fluid is also pumped by the pump 2 through a pipe 7 so as to force a valve spool 9 of the control means 8 against a spring 10. If the pump 2 should fail, the pressure in the line 7 falls and the spool 9 is urged by the spring 10 so that the top of the reservoir 18 is connected to a pressurized-fluid supply 11, via a connection 12, a change-over valve 13 and a line 17. The lubricant is forced through the cut-off valve 23 and the line 22 into the main feed-line 3, the valve 23 closing before the full amount of lubricant has been discharged from the reservoir 18. When the pump 2 recommences pumping, the pressure in the line 7 rises, the spool 9 is forced against the spring 10, the connection 12 communicates with an air-bleed line 13a and the pressurized-fluid line 11 is shut off. Lubricant is simultaneously forced into the reservoir 18, via the line 22 and the valve 23; and air is forced out of the top of the reservoir 18 to atmosphere, via the line 17, the valve 13, the connection 12, the control means 8 and the line 13a. When the reservoir 18 is full of lubricant and a diaphragm 14 in the valve 13 is raised by the lubricant, an air-bleed outlet 15 of the valve 13 is closed and a quantity of lubricant is passed through a throttle 20, an inspection glass 21 and a line 19 to the main reservoir 1.
