Abstract
116,763. Hey. H. June 23, 1917. Bleaching and washing, processes and materials for.-Raw wool is cleaned, carbonized, and sterilized by (1) steeping in a cold dilute solution of sulphuric acid, hydrochloric acid, or sulphuric acid and sodium chloride, to which a dilute solution of formaldehyde may be added, (2) draining, and drying by heating to 80‹ C., (3) extracting with a grease solvent, for example petrol or naphtha, and again drying, and (4) removing the friable vegetable and other insoluble foreign matter by crushing, opening, and beating in a current of air. If desired, the adhering acid and soluble salts are then washed away with water, and the combined acid is neutralized by a solution of alkali carbonate followed by washing in a dilute soap solution. Specifications 17437/04, 26843/06, and 24699/12 are referred to.
