Abstract

1,167,529. Knitted fabrics. LUDWIG POVEL & CO. 14 Oct., 1966 [15 Oct., 1965], No. 46177/66. Heading D1K. A knitted fabric, particularly for bandages and wound dressings, includes a substantially straight or slightly curved laid-in thread which is substantially inelastic and has a greater cross-sectional area than the other threads and is "overtwisted" or that when moistened it increases in length, causing the fabric to bow and assume a convex configuration. The fabric may be warp knitted and as shewn in Fig. 1a may comprise knitted threads L1, laid-in threads L2 and L4, and laid-in "overtwisted" threads L2. The threads L1 may be moved from course to course to the adjacent or alternate needles and the threads L2, L4 may be looped over two or more needles. The threads L3 may be arranged between the needles or moved from one side to the other of the needles.
