Abstract

1,166,992. Resistors. PLESSEY CO. Ltd. 5 Aug., 1966 [27 Aug., 1965], No. 37028/65. Addition to 1,166,991. Heading H1S. [Also in Division C1] An electrical conductor is made by forming a solution or emulsion of glaze precursors, adding a compound of Ru and/or Rh, coating on a refractory substrate, evaporating the solvent, and firing to form a conductive glass-metal or glassmetal-oxide composite glaze. The glaze may be a lead borosilicate glass formed from a solution which may contain a lead basic acetate, naphthenate, oleate, resinate, or stearate; ethyl silicate or silicon ester; and triethyl borate. The Ru or Rh may be present as a carboxylate, naphthenate, or resinate. The solvent may be methyl, ethyl, propyl, butyl, benzyl, or diacetone alcohol; a chlorinated hydrocarbon; an ether; an ester; or a terpene. Also present may be thickeners, screening preparations or hydrolysing agents. Application may be by dipping, impregnating, spraying, or screen printing, or use of a doctor blade. The film thickness may be <2 Ám. or thicker; a succession of films may be superimposed. The glaze may be used to form printed-circuit resistors or conductors. The substrate may be alumina, steatite, or borosilicate glass, and may be porous. The firing temperature may be 700-800‹ C. Reference has been directed oy the Comptroller to Specification 1,130,575.
