Abstract
1,166,764. Coating surfaces. BOFORS A.B. 12 Jan., 1967 [13 Jan., 1966], No. 1807/ 67. Heading B2K. [Also in Division C3] Metal surfaces are coated with a composition comprising, as solvent, a chlorinated hydrocarbon having an S.P. (solubility parameter) value of 7.8 to 13 and a binder which is a copolymer of (1) one or more ethylenically unsaturated monomers with one or more adhesion-promoting groups selected from carboxyl groups, amide groups, hydroxyl groups and amino or substituted amino groups in amount not greater than 12% by weight; (2) an ethylenically unsaturated polymerisable nitrile in amount of from 5 to 45% by weight of the copolymer; and (3) one or more ethylenically unsaturated monomers without functional groups of the aforesaid kind, said monomer or monomers (3) consisting of or including an ester of an unsaturated acid. The copolymer having an estimated S.P. value of 9.5 to 13 and being such that a solution of 20 g. of the polymer in 100 ml. of the solvent has a viscosity of from 10 to 175 cPs at 20‹C. The metal surface may be degreased with trichloroethylene prior to being immersion-lacquered in a solution containing trichloroethylene as the solvent.
