Abstract

1,166,212. Securing tubes on shafts. G. GATTRUGERI. 12 March, 1968 [14 March, 1967], No. 11916/68. Heading F2U. A tubular member 12, Fig. 1, e.g. for winding a continuous flexible web, is supported by a hollow shaft 1 having radially movable cylindrical struts 4, 5 which abut angularly spaced and equally inclined planes 7 on pairs of rigid members 8, 10 having oppositely inclined planes, the members being moved towards and away from each other by means which move only one member of the pair by reacting on the other member when the latter is stationary with respect to the shaft. Members 8 and 10 are prevented from rotating in shaft 1 and are moved by rotating a rod 11 which engages screw-threads of opposite hands. In a modification pairs of rigid members are moved by a rod which is screw-threaded into one member of a pair whilst the other member is restrained from moving on the rod by rings (20, 21), Fig. 3 (not shown). Two pairs of such rigid members are mounted in the same shaft (40) to clamp two separate and coaxial tubular members (41, 42) and in a further modification a single tubular member is clamped by two coaxial sections of shaft. In another modification one hollow centre rod receives the other centre rod whereby the rigid members can be moved by operating both of the centre rods from the same side of the shaft. In all embodiments the projecting ends of the supporting shaft can be received in bearings or supports.
