Abstract

1,165,964. Floating tanks. W. G. LANGANDERSON. 17 April, 1968 [17 Jan., 1967], No. 2514/67. Heading B7A. [Also in Division E1] Fresh water 13 is supplied to (e.g. by a line 20) and stored in a flexible tank 11 floating in or supported in salt water 14. The fresh water may be supplied from a dammed stream 21, under gravity, and withdrawn from the bottom of the tank 11 by a line 23 incorporating a pumping station 24. The tank may have an open top around which are a series of inflated bags 12 to keep it afloat. The tank may be surrounded by a barrier which may comprise either a series of piles 17 faced with splash boards 18 extending from below the low water mark to above the high watermark (spring tides) or a pit containing the salt water, surrounded by an earth wall. The tank may be secured to the barrier or to the sea bed, there being sufficient depth of sea water to maintain the tank afloat.
