Abstract

1,165,169. Air supply for burners. SULZER BROS. Ltd. 12 Dec., 1966 [27 Jan., 1966], No. 55568/66. Heading F4T. A cylindrical combustion chamber 1 has an oil burner 33 extending through an opening 10 in an end cover 9, air being supplied from inlet apertures 2 via an adjustable annular arrangement of swirl vanes 13 and an orifice plate 21 to the combustion space 6. The space 6 is formed by a telescoping jacket 7 supported and guided on a jacket 4. A cylinder 11 mounted in cover 9 supports vane spindles 12 which are connected to an adjusting cylinder 16 rotatable and axially movable by means of rack and worm 29, 31 and rack and pinion 30, 32 on the outer surface of a control cylinder 27. The orifice plate is supported by a cylinder 18 which is in turn supported from jacket 7 by fixed vanes 24. The downstream end of cylinder 18 is flared at 25. The orifice plate is funnel-shaped, converging in the direction of air flow, and a collar 23 depends from the orifice 22 whose plane contains the burner nozzle aperture 35. The burner may be of the split type and surrounded by a pipe 34 supplied with cooling air or gaseous fuel.
