Abstract

1,164,326. Hydromechanical change speed gear. H. EBERT. 6 Oct., 1967 [1 Dec., 1966], No. 53745/66. Heading F2D. A split-torque change-speed gear for a motor vehicle comprises an input shaft 11 fast with a first sun gear 12 of a torque splitting planet train 10 having a second sun gear 17 fast with an output shaft 18 and a ring gear 19 fast with the pump 21 of a hydrostatic transmission, the motor 28 of which is clutched at 33 directly to the output shaft 18 for forward drive and drives the output shaft 18 through a reverse gear 40 and clutch 39 for reverse drive. The suns 12, 17, ring gear 19 and a fixed ring gear 15 of the torque splitting planet train 10 mesh planets 13, 16 freely rotatable on a common carrier 14. Swash plates 22, 31 of the pump 21 and motor 28 are automatically adjusted during forward drive, by means not described, in response to operating conditions. The pump swash plate 22 is initially moved from a minimum to a maximum displacement position and thereafter the motor displacement is reduced from a maximum displacement position to a zero displacement position in which latter the pump is hydraulically locked and the ring gear 17 held against rotation to provide a direct drive. In direct drive the clutch 33 may be disengaged to prevent motor drag losses.
