1,164,234. Phthalocyanine dyestuffs. ALPINE CHEMISCHE A.G. 3 Aug., 1967 [4 Aug., 1966], No. 35685/67. Heading C4P. Compounds of the formula where X represents two hydrogen atoms or a co-ordinative tetravalent metal atom and R 1 - R 8 are H, halogen, carboxylic acid, aliphatic carboxylic acid ester, benzoic ester, carboxylic acid amide which may be substituted by alkyl of 1-4 carbon atoms, nitrile, sulphonic acid, sulphonic acid halide, sulphonic acid amide which may be substituted by alkyl of 1-4 carbon atoms, dialkylamino, alkoxy, alkylmercapto, carboxymethyl, cyanomethyl, acetyl, isocyanate, isothiocyanate, nitro, saturated or unsaturated aliphatic group of 1-12 carbon atoms which may be branched and/or substituted by halogen, phenyl which may be substituted by halogen, nitro or carboxy, 3 - imino - isoindolenine - 1 - carbonylamino, cycloalkyl, quaternary ammonium, azo, s-triazinyl or stilbene are prepared by reacting together, optionally in the presence of a metal salt, compounds of the formulµ where R<SP>1</SP> 5 -R<SP>1</SP> 8 are as R 5 -R 8 or are carboxylic acid chloride or bromide and hal is halogen, and converting the primary complex obtained into a phthalocyanine compound. The metal which may be represented by X is preferably Cu, Ni or Co.
