Abstract

1,164,018. Supercharged I.C. engines. GOTAVERKEN AB. July 11, 1967, No. 31853/67. Heading F1B. In a supercharged engine having the turbine 8 of an exhaust driven turbocharger connected to a group of cylinders by a short conduit 7, a receiver 15 is connected to the pipe 7 by a shut off valve 16. At starting and low loads valve 16 is closed and turbine 8 operates on the pulse system. At higher loads valve 16 is opened, whereby receiver 15 damps pulsations and the turbine operates on the constant pressure system. In Fig. 1 separate groups of cylinders 1...3, and 4...6 are connected by pipes 7, 9, to separate turbines 8, 10, and receiver 15 is connected to both conduits 7, 9 through valves 16. The turbochargers 11, 12, deliver through coolers 14 to opposite ends of the charge receiver 13. In engines having more than six cylinders, groups of cylinders may be connected to separate inlet compartments of each turbine.
