Abstract
1,163,752. Axial-flow fans. EDGAR ALLEN AEREX Ltd. Nov. 17, 1966 [Nov. 25, 1965], No. 50152/65. Heading F1C. A blade for a rotary axial-flow fluid machine, e. g. an axial-flow fan, has its working portion die cast or moulded over the head of a fixing member, e.g. a bolt or a hexagonal-headed set-screw 11, Fig. 5. The working portion may be of aluminium or other light metal or alloy and the fixing member may be of high tensile steel. The fixing member has a greater rigidity than the working portion. The blade is secured on a hub by a nut and locking means (not shown). A circular seat 15 has three angularly-spaced kidney-shaped lands 17 thereon which frictionally engage a plane base of a recess 23 in the hub to prevent rotation of the blade, and to prevent the fixing member from receiving bending loads so that the loading on the fixing member is substantially wholly tensile. This latter effect is assisted by the engagement of a boss 16 in a bore 24. The circular seat may have several notches (18, Fig. 3A, not shown), around part of its periphery, an appropriate one of which registers with a rib 26 on the hub to set the blade pitch. One side of the hub may be covered by a domed fairing (not shown).
