Abstract
1,163,705. Blowing lances. PITTSBURGH STEEL CO. 13 Feb., 1968 [24 March, 1967], No. 7106/68. Heading F4B. The outer tube of a water cooled oxygen lance has portion 8 extending into the basic oxygen furnace 2 widened and than tapered downwardly to the nozzle 9 the taper being 1/16-# inch per lineal foot. With a lance approx. 70 feet long the tapered portion is between 15-20 feet long and has a maximum diam. of approx. 1 ft., i.e. about 3 inches wider than that of the tube above it. The taper discourages the build-up of accretions on the tube. The lance is supported by a car 3 traversed along vertical tracks 4 by a cable 5 from a hoist 6.
