Abstract

116,362. Daigre, A. :D. June 11, 1917. Armour.-Relates to light body and other armour, protecting screens &c. for resisting rifle and machine-gun bullets. Metal plates 1 combined with layers 4 of plastie or elastic material are surrounded by a metallic frame 2 containing a filling 3 of a dense resistant material, the whole being enclosed in a casing 5 of fabric or thin sheet metal to prevent damage by friction when in use. The resilient material may be. gums, india-rubber, artificial rubber, and rubber substitutes, particularly the substances formed by a mixture of animal and vegetable glues, gelatine and oil, glycerine with the addition of a precipitant or coagulant such as formis aidehyde, chromium salts, lead or aluminium salts or carbon bisulphide and its compounds. This resilient material may be combined with a vegetable or mineral body, animal or vegetable textures, or fibres, asbestos, &c. A shield for personal wear is hooked on to the wearer.
