Abstract

[Also in Division G2] A coloured contact lens or eye prostheses comprises a single-coloured or multi-coloured pattern located between at least two layers of physiologically harmless hydrogel of which at least the first layer on a convex surface is transparent. The lens is made by a multi-stage moulding process, e.g. rotational casting and polymerization, of a hydrogel, the pattern, e.g. the image of the iris and/or pupil and/or sclera, being applied to an intermediate product. The image may be formed by a covering pigment or insoluble dye and a binding agent or by a coloured foil or film. A substance which absorbs ultra-violet radiation may be present in one of the layers. Examples of the hydrogel are given.
