Abstract

1,163,162. Packaging-machines. MARYLAND CUP CORP. 23 May, 1967, No. 23900/67. Heading B8C. [Also in Division F2] A valve for an ice cream dispenser has an inlet 77, a nozzle outlet 98 and a hollow piston slide valve member 91 with a side opening 94. Upward movement of the piston closes off the inlet and at the same time applies suction to the material remaining in the nozzle so that when the nozzle is lifted from the container 22 no " tailing " takes place. The piston slides within a sleeve 85 connected to the nozzle and having a side opening 86. The arrangement is such that the piston first moves upwardly to close the inlet and apply the suction and then the sleeve starts to move upwards to cover the inlet and retract the nozzle from the container. The reciprocations of the piston and sleeve are controlled by cam followers 53, 73 connected by bars 56 and plate 51, and plate 67, respectively to the upper ends of the piston and sleeve. The followers move in slots 52, 74 in cams 37, 45 mounted on shafts 26, 31 which rotate together but are axially movable relative to one another due to rollers 33 on shaft 31 engaging within slots 32 on the enlarged end of shaft 26. The plate 51 that is connected to the bars 56 on which the follower 53 is mounted carries cam 45 so that any upward movement of the follower 53 and thus the sleeve 85 is transmitted to the cam 45 and thus to the piston 91. The containers are carried in apertures of a rotary table 20 which is rotated to move a filled container to a capping station and an empty container beneath the nozzle each time the nozzle is lifted.
