Abstract

1,161,701. Fluid pressure brakes; indicating seal failure. AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS CO. Ltd. 29 March, 1968 [17 Feb., 1967], No. 7586/67. Headings F2E and F2F. A fluid pressure operated actuator for a dual circuit brake system comprises an outer cylinder body and an inner cylindrical member extending in fluid-tight relationship through one end of the outer body. In Fig. 1, the inner member 7 is hollow and defines two chambers connected to respective brake circuits. A single hollow piston 11 or two separate pistons may be provided. The areas of the annular portion of the piston 11 and its end wall 12 may be equal. A feed nipple 21 is provided. Seal 14 is provided in a groove having an inclined bottom to assist piston retraction. In Fig. 4, the inner member 28 is solid. The space between seals 32 may be connected to a bleed nipple (40), Fig. 5 (not shown), egress of fluid therethrough indicating a breakdown of the seals.
