Abstract

1,161,603. Heat-treatment furnaces. NEMO HEAT TREATMENTS Ltd. 11 Jan., 1967 [30 Dec., 1965], No. 55188/65. Heading F4B. A furnace for heat treatment of metal components comprises a gas-tight outer shell 1, an inner casing 2 of gas-permeable heat insulating material having hinged flaps 3 in the upper parts of its sides and a movable bung 4 in its bottom, cooling coils 9 between the shell 1 and the casing 2, a muffle 5 within the inner casing 2 in which workpieces can be placed, heating elements 8 between the inner casing 2 and said muffle 5, means for evacuating air and moisture from the furnace and admitting an inert gas, and a fan 7 placed over the muffle 5 for drawing gas either inside the casing 2 when the flaps 3 and bung 4 are closed, or when both are open through the space between the easing 2 and the shell 1 so that said workpieces can be either heated or cooled respectively. A pipe 10 connects the shell 1 to an evacuating pump 11, an inlet for inert gas via valve 15, a pressure switch 17 which helps remove excess pressure in the shell, and a sampling chamber 20 fitted with a moisture detecting device 21.
