1,161,545. Insecticides containing volatile organic phosphorus compounds. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. 19 July, 1967 [21 July, 1966), No. 33144/67. Heading A5E. An insecticidal composition having long effective life comprises a volatile insecticidal organic phosphorus compound of formula OR"', wherein R' is H or alkyl, Z is halogen, R" is H, alkyl or halogen, and R"' is alkyl, aryl, aralkyl or alkaryl; together with a carrier, the composition being provided with an outer layer, suitably 10-200 microns thick and comprising a material through which the volatile insecticide can be emitted into the outside air. Preferably the carrier is a thermoplastic polymer, and the outer layer (which may be in the form of a film, shrunk film or laminate and may be separate from the insecticide/ carrier mass or may be attached thereto) may also be a thermoplastic polymer. Many thermoplastic polymers are specified, those preferred being nylon, polyethylene, polypropylene, ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer and (polyvinyl chloride. In the example, dimethyl 2,2-dichlorovinyl phosphate is mixed with polyvinyl chloride and the mass enclosed in a film of ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer.
