Abstract

1,161,442. Vacuum switches. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. 21 Sept., 1966 [3 Oct., 1966], No. 43013/67. Heading H1N. The contacts of a vacuum switch each comprise a circular base part formed with spiral slots 32 and a central contact making button 30 overlapping the inner ends 32a of the slots. The button 30 has an annular contact making surface and the base is provided with stainless steel inserts 40, 70 (Figs. 1, 3, not shown) constraining the current to follow a sharp loop. The base is of copper, the button 30 of a copper-bismuth or copper-lead alloy resistant to welding. The envelope of the switch is constructed with shields as described in Specification 1,161,443.
