Abstract
1,161,427. Carbon transfer-paper mechanism. COLUMBIA RIBBON & CARBON MFG. CO. 24 Aug., 1966 [15 Oct., 1965], No. 37876/66. Heading B6F. A typewriter carbon transfer-ribbon 10, Fig. 3, comprising a paper or plastics tape 18, Fig. 2, coated with a single impression, carbon transfer layer 19 is provided adjacent its terminal portion with an electrically conductive layer 23, which when engaged by a switch contact 24, Fig. 3, connected by a conductor 37 to the typewriter frame, closes a circuit to change the state of a flip-flop 29, Fig. 4, and disable a photo-electric unit 30, such that its lamp 31 is de-energized for actuation of a bi-lateral semi-conductor switch 33. The switch 33 in turn de-energizes a motor coil 35 which acts as an interlock for the typewriter keys. The interlock is defeated by manual operation of a motor start key so that the typed line may be completed, the terminal portion of the carbon transfer-ribbon 10 being of a length which is sufficient to permit completion of the line. A visual warning, which may be replaced by an audible one, may be given by a lamp 42.
