Abstract

1,161,246. Graft polymer-chlorinated polyethylene blends. BORG-WARNER CORP. 3 Nov., 1966 [8 Nov., 1965], No. 49272/66. Heading C3G. A mechanical blend consists of (a) 95 to 20 parts by weight of a graft polymer obtained by polymerizing 30 to 70% by weight of a monovinyl aromatic hydrocarbon and 10 to 40% of an acrylic acid nitrile in the presence of 10 to 60% of a conjugated aliphatic diolefin homopolymer or a copolymer of such a diolefin and a monovinyl aromatic hydrocarbon and (b) 5 to 80 parts of a chlorinated polyethylene containing 20 to 55% by weight of chlorine. The blends may also include an acid acceptor e.g. a lead compound or a metal oxide, a lubricant and other flame retardants e.g. Sb 2 O 5 . In Examples 1 to 15 and 28 a graft polymer (A) of polybutadiene grafted with acrylonitrile and styrene is blended with chlorinated polyethylene, dibutyl tin maleate and a polyoxyalkylene derivative of propylene glycol. The blends of Examples 16 to 26, 29 and 30 also include a graft polymer (B) of polybutadiene grafted with acrylonitrile, styrene and α-methyl styrene. In Example 27 the only graft polymer in the blend is graft polymer (B).
