Abstract
1,161,242. Cyclic switching systems. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. 2 March, 1967 [4 March, 1966], No. 9713/66. Heading H2H. [Also in Division G3] A circuit for regulating and reversing the current through a D.C. load across terminals 12, 13 comprises series pairs of switches, e.g. thyristors 8, 10, one e.g. 8 unit 1 of which determines the polarity and the other pair 8, 10 unit 2 being fired alternately to determine the mark space ratio. With opposite pairs, 8 unit 1, 10 unit 2 conductive, firing thyristor 8 unit 2 places most of the supply voltage across one half of tapped inductor 7 unit, the induced reverse voltage across the other half extinguishing thyristor 10. The thyristors may be manually controlled from a mark space circuit, or automatically controlled by load voltage or current from a pair of bi-stable stages 17, 18, Fig. 3, each driven from an integrator 15, 16, the latter being fed with both an error signal from isolator unit 25 and a reference signal, the polarity of which determines which of thyristors 8, 10 unit 1 are fired to determine the current direction in the load.
