Abstract

1,160,509. Two-part couplings; connectors. AMP Inc. 11 June, 1968 [20 June, 1967], No. 27629/68. Heading H2E. In a contact element 11 formed from sheet metal, e.g. brass, which is of substantially U- shaped cross-section, with laterally opposed side walls 24 and a planar floor 14, part of which is bent upwards to form a resilient contact portion 27, so as to leave an underlying slot in the floor, lugs 40 are provided to limit the upward movement of the contact, downward movement being restricted by the free end 28 of the contact strip being wider than the region 29 of the slot below it. In another embodiment (Figs. 5 and 6, not shown) the lugs are positioned at the other end of the contact portion, abutting a short flattened platform formed in the bent-up strip adjacent the end joined to the floor. In a further embodiment (Figs. 7 and 8, not shown), the contact portion is continuous with the floor, the side walls being formed into an inwardlyextending depression 43, and acting to limit downward movement of the contact part. All the embodiments may be provided with crimping means 13 for attachment to a wire. The contact element is designed for use in a housing for contact engagement with a flat contact surface of a tape cable, printed circuit board &c, as is fully described in Specification 1,091,382.
