Abstract

1,160,388. Centrifugal separators; exhaust gas filters. K.A.O.I. 1 Feb., 1967 [1 Feb., 1966; 30 May, 1966; 13 Aug., 1966; 12 Dec., (2)], No. 4982/67. Headings BIT and B2P [Also in Division F1] Exhaust gasses pass through a centrifugal separator P Fig. 1 and then flow into at least one further separator F1 comprising an expansion chamber 10 and a filter 13. The gases enter separator P tangentially, the whirling flow causing separation of coarse water droplets and soot particles through a perforated tube 3. The partially purified gases flow through pipe 8 into expansion space 10 from which some gases flow through perforated wall 11 into filter chamber 13 whilst the remainder flow through pipe 18 into a second expansion and filter device F 3 from which a portion of the gases flow directly to the outlet through pipe 19. Filter chambers F 2 , F 4 , are situated downstream of devices F 1 F 3 , and the gases from the filter compartment of device F 1 flow through the filter chambers of devices F 1 - - - F 4 in series. The separated material in device P settles in chamber 21. In Fig. 4 (not shown) the pipe 19 is omitted and all of the gases pass through the final filter chamber (F 6 ). In Fig. 15 the filter chambers F 1 --- F 6 are formed in a perforated member 25 loosely fitting in the outer casing 12', vibration of the member 25 during operation causing deposits to be shaken out of the filters into collecting chambers 23. Separate collecting chambers may be associated with each filter compartment and these chambers may be connected by pipes to a sludge collecting tank in which noxious gases dissolved in the sludge may be neutralized by material such as sodium carbonate, lime or sulphuric acid. Catalyst material may be incorporaed in the filters. 1,160,392. Screening apparatus. L. W. JOHNSON. 12 Oct., 1966 [25 April, 1966], No. 45569/66. Heading B2H. An elliptical vibratory stroke is applied to a screening box 13, Fig. 3, mounted on a base 17 by means of spring assemblies 19. As described, the vibratory mechanism comprises a motor 41 driving via a belt-and-sheave system an arrangement of three sets of eccentric weights, as 57, 81, 83, Fig. 5, which are interconnected by a chain 69 tensioned by idler sprockets 85, 87. The weights may be adjusted in position by means of an adjusting crank inserted through holes in a cover 95, Fig. 7, and having keys to fit end slots of shafts 72, 73; at the same time the chain is slackened by releasing a toggle 99, Fig. 6. The system is lubricated by an oil trough 123, from which the chain picks up oil, carries it into channels 121, and thence into a spent 125 which lubricates a hub 53. Similar lubricating systems are provided for the shafts 72, 73. Further bearings are lubricated by slinger discs.
