Abstract
1,159,598. Web coating apparatus. FUJI SHASHIN FILM K.K. 26 Oct., 1966 [28 Oct., 1965; 15 Dec., 1965], No. 48076/66. Heading D1L. Apparatus for coating two or more fluid coating compositions in multiple distinct layers onto a continuously moving web 1 comprises a plurality of chambers 4-7 containing the fluid compositions and connected to individual supply means, a plurality of discharge slots 8-11 for applying the compositions separately to the surface of the web such that each composition is applied after the previous composition (if any) has been applied, each of said slots being connected to an individual chamber, and a plurality of doctor blades 13-16 and a back plate 12 which define the discharge slots. The length of each slot in the direction of travel of the web is less than 2 mm. The apparatus is particularly suitable for the application of compositions for photographic light sensitive elements.
