LEBEDEVA. 4 Nov., 1966, No. 49458/66. Heading C2J. Bifunctional organometallic compounds containing a radical derived from a polymerizable monomer are prepared by reacting an alkali metal with a diolefin or a styrene-type monomer in the presence of an alkyl or alkyl halide derivative of a Group II or III metal. The medium may be a saturated or aromatic hydrocarbon and the temperature 30‹ to 100‹ C. The molar ratios may be 1:1 for alkali metal and the alkyl derivative and 1:1 or 2:1 for alkali metal and alkyl halide derivative. In the latter case, the resulting compounds may contain only a Group II or Group III metal, or may be complex compounds and contain an alkali metal too, depending on the molar ratio of the alkali metals and alkyl metal halides. If the alkyl derivative is used instead of the alkyl halide derivative, the product is complex, and contains the Group T metal and the Group II or III metal.
