Abstract

1,159,261. Batch mixers. HEAD WRIGHTSON & CO. Ltd. 22 May, 1967 [22 Feb., 1966], No. 7695/66. Heading B1C. A batch mixer includes a drum having a cylindrical portion 2 and a frusto-conical portion 3 and is mounted on trunnions 8 for rotation about a diameter of the drum. The end of the cylindrical portion is closed by an end wall 4 containing a cleaning and filling opening with a cover 5, and the other end of the drum has a filling and discharge opening 6. The corner 7 is curved, or is square with a radiussed insert. The drum may be jacketed for heating or cooling, and may be evacuated. One of the trunnions may be hollow, so that if a liquid is to be mixed, it may be introduced therethrough. The mixer is preferably operated with its centre of gravity, as charged and with the frusto-conical portion in its lowermost position, on the axis of rotation.
