1,159,089. Insecticides containing pyrethrins. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. 16 May, 1968, No. 23352/68. Heading A5E [Also in Division C2] Insecticidal compositions comprise pyrethrins and as synergists methylenedioxybenzene compounds of the general formula wherein R 1 represents hydrogen or alkyl, preferably C 1-6 alkyl, R 2 represents alkyl, preferably C 1-6 alkyl, n is an integer, preferably, between 1 and 4 and X represents hydrogen, alkyl, a halogen, preferably chlorine or bromine, or a polyether group of the formula R 1 | - CH - O - (CH 2 CH 2 O) n R 2 in which R 1 , R 2 and n areas defined above, in a ratio of methylenedioxybenzene compound to pyrethrin between 0.1:1 and 100:1 preferably 1:1 to 10:1 and more especially 5:1. Such compositions may contain a further insecticide and may be packed in an aerosol container. The compositions or the methylenedioxybenzene compounds themselves may be applied directly to the habitat of the insect.
