Abstract

1,158,730. Ion-exchange. L. & C. STEINMULLER G.m.b.H. 21 Dec., 1966 [21 Dec., 1965], No. 57150/66. Heading B1J. Raw water entering container 1 by inlet 5 is treated by ion-exchange bed 8 and treated water leaves by pipe 4. During regeneration of the bed the supply 5 is cut off and air is forced into the space above the top of the bed to push the liquid out of the bed, completely if desired. Regenerant is now introduced by pipe 4 to a pressure such that regenerant rises to a level between the top of the bed and the outlet element 2. During regeneration and ancillary flushings the pressure of regenerant &c. may vary to allow the bed to expand but still under control.
