Abstract

1,158,318. Voltage measurement. W. & T. AVERY Ltd. Sept.26, 1966 [Sept.24, 1965], No.40752/65. Heading G1U. [Also in Divisions G4 and H3] In a weight measuring system in which an electrical signal analogue of the weight to be measured is produced, the electrical signal is converted to a digital representation in a fairly conventional manner (see Division G4) and an analogue indication of the electrical signal is provided when its value is below that corresponding to the least positive digital indication. This enables zero drift in the weighing system to be observed. The analogue indication may be provided by a centre zero meter or, in a much better system, by a magic eye indicator. When there is a zero digital indication, i.e. the input lies between Π1 digit, an AND gate AG responding to all the digit zeros switches on a transistor 18 to apply reverse volts to a diode 11. This ensures that the input signal (from amplifier A) is applied via the emitter follower 1 and amplifier stages 2, 3 to a magic eye indicator 16. The size of the eye is adjustable on potentiometer 7 so that it is halfway along the tube at accurate balance, while resistors 5 and 6 control the gain of the system so that the eye is fully open or closed at ΢ digit. Capacitor 17 provides a low pass filtering characteristic.
