Abstract

1,157,931. Valves. C.A.V. Ltd. 14 Feb., 1967 [28 Feb., 1966], No. 8589/66. Heading F2V. [Also in Divisions F1 and G3] In a fuel injection pump comprising a rotary distributer 11 with injection pump pistons 14 reciprocated by a cam 15 and supplied with fuel by a rotary vane feed pump 21, the output pressure of the feed pump is maintained proportional to engine speed by a valve 30 rotatable with distributer 11, and subjected to the feed pump output pressure in chamber 26 and centrifugal force acting on mass 29 on the valve. A land A on the valve controls flow from chamber 26 to the injection pump via groove 31, passage 18 and metering valve 17, and a land B controls by-pass ports 32 between chamber 26 and the feed pump inlet 37, via passage 33, a valve 38 preventing flow through the spill ports 32 until the feed pump pressure has risen sufficiently to open valve 38 against spring 39. A cup 42 with ports 43 damps the movement of valve 30. Valve 38 has a non-return valve 41 for entry of priming fuel to the feed pump. A perforated diaphragm 40, e.g. of nylon, supports valve 38 and filters incoming fuel.
