Abstract

1,157,450. Typewriters. OLIVETTI UNDERWOOD CORP. 29 Nov., 1966 [13 Dec., 1965], No. 53293/66. Heading B6F. A repeat letter-spacing device for a manual typewriter comprises a ratchet and pawl escapement mechanism and a control key (33), 33<SP>1</SP> which when operated raises a lever 31 so that, in the case of a rocker escapement mechanism, Fig. 3, a rocker 22 is permitted to pivot so that a movable pawl 21 is displaced from the ratchet wheel 16, the rotation of which causes the operation of a restoring pawl 41 which restores the rocker whereby pawl 21 again holds the ratchet wheel. If the repeat key is still held a spring 37 again pivots the rocker displacing pawl 21 and another letter space is effected. In the case of an anchor type pawl 47, Fig. 4, the restoring pawl 41<SP>1</SP> pivots a bell crank 32<SP>1</SP> which allows a pawl 47 to re-engage the ratchet wheel 161. If the repeat space key 33<SP>1</SP> is still depressed crank 32<SP>1</SP> presses pawl 47 to release position and the rotation of rachet 16<SP>1</SP> actuates the restoring pawl 41 again.
