Abstract

1,157,051. Seats. PRESSED STEEL FISHER Ltd. 7 Feb., 1968 [9 Feb., 1967; 19 Oct., 1967], Nos. 6324/67 and 47721/67. Heading A4J. In a forwardly tiltable car seat, in which the rear can normally be swung upwardly, to allow access to the rear seats, the rear member 18 of the seat frame is held by hooks 27, 28, or a single hook (43, Figs. 4 and 5, not shown), which do not normally resist disengagement but, in the event of rapid deceleration of the car, a steel ball 33, (49) is interposed between the lower ends of the hooks, to lock them in the engaged position, in which the seat is held down. The ball 33, (49) normally rests, clear of hooks 27, 28, at the bottom of a downwardly and rearwardly sloping ramp 32, (48), up which it is propelled by the deceleration. The ball may be returned to the lower end of the ramp 32, (48) by means of a lever (36, 50).
