Abstract

1,156,696. #-Acrylamido-propionamide. FERBANIA S.p.A. 15 Aug., 1966 [23 Oct., 1965], No. 36478/66. Heading C2C. [Also in Division C3] #-Acrylamido-propionamide of the formula CH 2 = CH-CONH-CH 2 -CH 2 -CO-NH 2 is prepared by treating acrylamide with a metalalkyl, metal-aryl or keto-metallic complex, under substantially anhydrous conditions. The catalysts are preferably employed in amounts from 0À005 to 0À05 mol per mol of acrylamide, the reaction being preferably carried out in an inert organic solvent at a temperature in the range of from 0-100‹ C. for from 10 mins. to 48 hours. A particularly suitable solvent is dioxane in which the product is soluble in the hot, but not in the cold. The product may be used to form polymers and copolymers.
