Abstract

1,156,536. Refrigerating. AMERICAN AIR FILTER CO. Inc. 6 July, 1966, No. 30412/66. Heading F4H. In a refrigeration system refrigerant vapour is mixed at 10 with a liquid carrier medium at approximately condenser temperature so that compression of the mixture in compressor 2 is effected substantially isothermally. The vapour may be superheated to approximately condenser temperature, prior to mixing, by heat exchange at 18 with unexpanded liquid refrigerant. The compressor discharges to a separator 6 from which refrigerant vapour passes to condenser 14 and carrier liquid returns to point 10. The separator may have heating means for maintaining the desired liquid temperature and the liquid may include a foaming agent. In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown), the compressor discharges directly to the condenser which in turn discharges to a liquid/liquid separator. Alternatively, only the carrier liquid is pumped and is used as the impelling medium in a jet compressor.
