Abstract

1,156,470. Spray-producers. TECHNOIMPEX MAGYAR GEPIPARI KULKERESKEDELMI VALLALAT. 13 March, 1967, No. 11631/67. Heading B2F. In an electrostatic spray device for spraying paint, the paint is supplied through a pipe 5 into a chamber 3 having electrically conductive walls connected by a lead 4 to one terminal of a high-voltage source, and thence through passages 13 into accelerating grooves 14 to an outlet aperture 30 where it is entrained by compressed air issuing from an annular chamber 9 through multiple outlets 11, and atomized by air issuing from a nozzle 10 impinging against an atomizing surface 16 formed on a stationary atomizing head 12. The air supply tube 19 is controlled by a manual valve 20, and may lie outside the device, as shown, or may be formed in contact with the outside surface of the charged casing of the chamber 3 so as to charge the air (Fig. 2, not shown). A partition wall 8 separates the chamber 9 from the grooves 14 and bears against the enclosing walls 15 of the grooves. The grooves may be axially or helically disposed around the atomizing head 12. The spray device comprises four parts: a neck and handle portion 1, 2 and a head portion, each formed of insulating material, the atomizing head 12 and the partition wall 8. The neck portion 2 is enveloped by a metal casing 26 connected to earth at 27. The head portion 7 is connected to the neck portion 2 by a screw or bayonet joint. The atomizing head 12 is screwed into the partition wall 8 which is itself screwed into the head portion 7. A switch 23 on the handle 1 controls the high voltage supply and an indicator light 22.
