The subject-matter of this Specification is substantially the same as that described in Specification 26552/66, but the claims relate to purifying raw ammonia synthesis gas by drying, cooling and condensation of methane and some nitrogen. The dry raw syngas is cooled in two series arranged heat exchangers between which is an expansion turbine and the raw syngas at a temperature between -180‹ F. and - 280‹ F. is fed to a conventional rectifying column having a reflux condenser supplied by liquid bottoms; the exchangers being cooled by reverse flow of effluent purified syngas and partially vaporized bottoms leaving the condenser.
