Alternating-current relays; protective arrangements.-An alternating-current relay, particularly for use as a reverse phase or low voltage device, has two windings 6, 7, with substantially V-shaped cores, and an aluminium plate armature 18 carried by rods 19 from a journal 17, the bearing being on one side of the windings and the armature on the opposite side. The journal carries on a bracket 24 a copper contact 26 permanentlv connected by a flexible lead 28 to a terminal E. A weight 23 partly counterbalnaces the contact 26. The fixed contact 29 is of carbon adjustably mounted on the terminal bracket 31. The windings 6, 7 are connected to different phases of a two or three phase supply circuit, the contacts 26, 29 closing a relay circuit for a main switch. On phase reversal in one of the windings or on excessive drop in voltage, the contacts open by gravity and open the relay circuits. The windings may be in series with the stator windings of a motor, so that if one of the stator winding circuits is opened the relay is unbalanced and the main switch opens.
