Abstract
1,155,640. Commutator constructions. VERINIGUNG VOLKSEIGENER BETRIEBE ELEKTROGERATE. 14 Nov., 1967, No. 51747/67. Heading H2A. The armature winding ends of a dynamoelectric machine are passed through perforations and located in slots in a cup-shaped cap of insulating material into which the carbon commutator body is pressed to make the connections to the segments. The cap comprises a hub 1 and a collar 2 which has a tapered or stepped periphery for receiving the commutator body. Radial slits are provided between perforations 6 and the outer periphery of the collar into which the armature wires are inserted and secured by bending along the face of the collar into slots 4 in its periphery. The commutator body is pressed into the cup-shaped cap so that the wire ends are securely held against the individual segments. To facilitate alignment lugs 11 are provided on the cap which enter spaces between the segments. Fan blades 7 are provided on the armature end of the cap. Various shapes of perforation are disclosed, those for receiving two wire ends being provided with slots on both sides of the radial slit leading to the perforation. The cap may be provided with a shaft for mounting the commutator where the shaft and commutator bore have complementary profiles, alternatively a separate commutator shaft may be used which fits in a recess in the end cap hub.
