Abstract

1,155,424. Separating dust from gas stream; cyclone separator. F. MELLOR. 29 March, 1967 [20 April, 1966], No. 17220/66. Headings B1T and B2P. Dust-laden gas enters an annular space, formed by tube 20 and spaced washers 24, 25, through a converging tangential nozzle 18, and dust centrifugally separated as the gas flows round the bore of tube 20 passes through spaced axial slots 21, 22, (23) in tube 20 and falls into an enclosing receptacle (10), (Fig. 1, not shown). Gas entering receptacle (10) re-enters nozzle 18 by a slot (29) (Fig. 3, not shown). The lower, bell-shaped part of tube 20 and its axial outlet 26 form a cyclone separator in which the lighter dust is separated, being removed periodically by opening door 17. Outlet 26 discharges upwards through a foamed plastics filter (12) (Figs. 1, 4, not shown). When used to treat air extracted from a grinding tool, a centrifugal extractor fan (13) is mounted above and downstream of the filter. Alternatively, a blowing fan may be located upstream of the whole assembly. Items (10), 11, (13) may be connected by clips, and the whole mounted on wheels.
