Abstract
1,155,355. Articulated vehicles. MATBRO Ltd. 23 April, 1968 [3 Feb., 1967; 2 May, 1967], Nos. 5457/67 and 20384/67. Heading B7H. An articulated vehicle comprises front and rear frame sections 10 and 11, pivoted together at 12 and each mounted on a pair of wheels, steering being effected by a pair of rams 16 connected between the sections. A body portion is mounted by a pivotal bearing 26 on the rear section 11 and is connected by a pin and slot connection 28, 29 to the front section 10 so that, when travelling round a curve, the body rotates about the bearing 26 and its centre of gravity is moved towards the inside of the curve. Rollers 30 and a roller track 29 may be provided between the body and the rear frame section. In a modification, the pin and slot connection may be replaced by a crank arm pivoted to the front section and to the body. In another modification a bell crank 55 is pivoted to the rear section at 56 and to the body at 57, and is operated to shift the body inwardly towards the centre of the curve when the vehicle is steered round a curve, by a ram 54 actuated in parallel with the steering rams 16. Both sets of wheels 13, 14 may be driven and the engine 19 may be mounted on an axle 20 which is mounted at 21 on the front frame 10 for pivoting about a longitudinal axis.
