Abstract

1,155,070. Crimping yarn. ASAHI KASEI KOGYO K.K. 16 June, 1967 [18 June, 1966], No. 27929/67. Heading D1F. Yarn is crimped in a stuffer box having a pressure plate at the exit thereof and is passed through a channel in which the yarn density is maintainedat 40-90% of that in the stuffer box to a rotary setting drum. The pressure plate is backed by an air cylinder. One wall of the channel is adjustable. Surrounding half the periphery of the drum is an arcuate box having an heating element and from which hot air or super heated steam is drawn through perforations in the inner wall. The drum has upstanding flanges which form with the inner wall of the box and the outer wall of the drum a pathway for the core of crimped yarn. The outer wall of the drum has perforations through which the heating medium is sucked into the hub of the drum, the drum having a plurality of radially extending walls between the hub and outer wall. The yarn may be of thermoplastic fibres, or of cellulose fibres with a resin being used to set the crimp.
