Abstract

1,154,957. Welding by fusion. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. 30 Aug., 1967 [2 Sept., 1966], No. 39594/67. Heading B3R. Gas shielded short-circuiting arc welding is performed using a filled ferrous electrode containing an oxide or a carbonate of an alkaline earth metal and an arc voltage of 9À8-17 volts. At least 50 short-circuits per second occur. Specified shielding gases are CO 2 ; A; 80% A, 15% CO 2 , 5% O 2 ; 90% A, 5% CO 2 , 5% O 2 ; 95% A, 5% O 2 ; and 90% A, 10% O 2 . The electrode may contain any of the following: 0À3-7% CaC0 3 , 0À2-3% MgO, 1À6% Mn as FeMn, 0À8% Si as FeSi, 0-0À3% potassium felspar, 0À1-2À1% CaF 2 , 2À1% SrCO 3 , 1-2À2% MgCO 3 and Fe powder. The tube may be 60% of the electrode.
