Abstract

1,154,907. Polythiourethanes. DUNLOP CO. Ltd. (D. A. Mackillop, S. Adamek and B. B. J. Wood). 12 July, 1967 [14 July, 1966], No. 31655/66. Addition to 1,109,165. Heading C3R. Polythiourethanes are prepared by reacting an organic polyiso(thio)cyanate with a poly (propylene sulphide) containing at least two active hydrogen-containing groups, at least one of which is a thiol group, the poly(propylene sulphide) having an isotacticity value of at least 1À20. The polythiourethanes may be prepared by the " one-shot " or " prepolymer " processes if desired in the presence of chain-extending and/or cross-linking agents. Conventional catalysts may be added to the reaction mixture and the reaction may take place in the presence of a solvent for the poly(propylene sulphide). The poly(propylene sulphide) may be prepared by reacting propylene sulphide with a modifying agent such as hydrogen sulphide, ethane dithiol, mercapto-ethanol or mercapto-propionic acid in the presence of a compound of a Group II B metal, preferably a cadmium compound.
