Abstract

1,154,600. Railway vehicle undercarriages. GRAND SPECIALTIES CO. 24 Nov., 1966 [5 April, 1966], No. 52728/66. Heading B7L. [Also in Division B8] A lift comprises a base, a pair of rams 30 supported on the base, a pair of chains 38, each being anchored to the base at one end, being connected to a platform 16 at the other end and having an intermediate portion trained over one of the rams 30 so that vertical movement of the rams is accompanied by vertical movement of the platform, and an equalizer for assuring that movement of one ram through a predetermined distance is accompanied by movement of the other ram through substantially the same distance, the equalizer including a horizontally disposed shaft 71 carried by the platform, a sprocket 74 secured at each end of the shaft, and each sprocket being meshed with one of the chains 38 so that the chains become a track for the sprockets during vertical movement of the platform. The lift has a frame F, masts 12 fixed to the frame and masts 14 carrying the rams 30 and movable relative to the masts 12 by rams 20 and chains 28 similar to the rams 30 and chains 38, an equalizer being provided similar to that referred to above and including a shaft 61 on the masts 12 having sprockets 63 secured to it, the sprockets meshing with the chains 28. The masts 14 have rollers 42, 43 which engage guide channels in the masts 12, and the platform has rollers engaging guide channels in the masts 14. Back-up means (69), Figs. 2, 3, 4 (not shown), for the sprockets 63, 73 are provided. The lift is self-propelled with a steering handle H connected to a wheel turning mechanism 165 by a chain drive 164. An electric motor 166 drives ground wheels 168 and the lift is also supported by wheels 170, 171 and casters 174, 175. Tracks 176, 177 engaged by rollers 178, 179 on the frame F guide the latter but these may be omitted.
